Caring For Your Cromptons Healthcare by MIP Slide Sheets

Posted by on

All Cromptons Healthcare by MIP Slide Sheets are available as either Patient Specific or Washable/Reusable options. In this blog, you can learn how to care for your slide sheets correctly and maximise their lifespan.

Prior to using any slide sheet, you should be doing a risk assessment or follow a handling plan set out by a professional. Fabric, thread and stitch degradation caused by continuous use will take place over time (as normal wear and tear and/or washing). You should always inspect your slide sheet prior to each use. Check the “slipperiness” by rubbing slide sheets together as well as checking for rips, tears and stitching on handles.

Patient Specific slide sheets are red and designed for multiple use on a single person should be disposed of once a person no longer needs them or if they become damaged over time. These slide sheets should not be laundered.

  • Lightly soiled patient specific slide sheets may be wiped clean using a dilute chlorine-based solution or a good quality sterilization fluid.
  • If required, small marks and spillages can be wiped clean using a damp cloth, then dried.

Washable/reusable slide sheets are blue and designed to be laundered to allow reuse for different individuals.

  • Re-usable slide sheets can be laundered following standard hospital laundry guidelines and to infection control guidelines HSG(95)18.
  • The use of bleaching agents should be avoided.
  • Maximum recommended washing temperature 90° C.
  • Drip dry, (if necessary a low temperature tumble dry may be used with care. Tumble dried sheets may develop a wrinkled appearance that should not affect performance).
  • Lightly soiled sheets may be wiped clean using a dilute chlorine-based solution or a good quality sterilisation fluid. If required, small marks and spillages can be wiped clean using a damp cloth then dried.
  • To avoid the potential of cross contamination, the slides should be laundered before being used with a different person, patient or resident.
  • Always follow the guidance set out by your infection control policy.
